What Happened to the Past Two Months?

What? No message or post for the month of November? Yeah, I'm sorry for being not up-to-date with my blog. Actually, I've been very engrossed with reading the Twilight Saga books, and I just lost my time. It was really engrossing to the point that I sometimes mixed events and/or information of the real world and the fantasy world created by the author, Stephanie Meyer. It was really great! You should try reading it yourself and just see what I mean... ;)

By the way, Christmas is really very near (around 8 more days to go?) and the chill is in the air. Speaking of the holiday season, I bet you're really stressed out with all the party preparations and the party itself -- gift buying, clothes buying, food buying and all the buying thing. :D No worries my dear because everything is really paid off already. How? Well, the laughter and memories and how you were able to make somebody's day great... That's how it's all being paid off. With the season coming, it's really nice when you can spend it with someone special... :)

Enough for my chatter! Hope you like my little input here... Off I go!

Weird: Online divorcee jailed after killing virtual hubby

I came across this piece of article when I opened www.yahoo.com and the title just caught my attention so I read on...

By MARI YAMAGUCHI, Associated Press

TOKYO: A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.

Players in "Maple Story" raise and manipulate digital images called "avatars" that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.

The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.

All along, I thought the player was prisoned for killing an avatar in an online game... which is really weird 'coz I never heard such law in online games. But as I read on, it was because of hacking that made her go to jail.

Over all, it was a pretty interesting read. The strategy on presenting the article was really effective. What do you think?

A Woman's Worth

The Hebrew Talmud says: "Be very careful if you make a woman cry because God counts her tears. Every tear a woman shed is equivalent of man's sacrifices in life. The woman came from a man's rib, not on his feet to be stepped on; not on his head to be superior, but on his side to be equal; under his arms to be protected and near his heart to be loved."

Wow! I received this text message today and even though my day was not good because of a terrible argument earlier this morning, it really made my day! I heard this before, but it was only now that it really went straight to my heart. It's probably because I am a bit older now and see things in a different manner? Probably...

Anyways, have you had any text messages where it brightened your day or had affected you in any way? Mind if you make a sharing? Thanks!

Mystery "iPhone Girl": Kim Chu, kaw ba yan!?!

The moment I opened my browser, what immediately captured my attention was about this photo of an Asian factory worker from an Apple contractor that was included in a new released iPhone 3G phone.

I even saw a picture of this cute, smiling girl and thought she was Kim Chu, the local artist starring as "Jasmine" in "My Girl".

Anyways, here's a photo of the "iPhone Girl" and the details of the news which I got from Yahoo.

"Mystery 'iPhone Girl' generates Internet intrigue"

By MIN LEE, Associated Press Writer Wed Aug 27, 10:27 AM ET
HONG KONG - Who is the "iPhone Girl"?

Pictures of an Asian factory worker found on a new iPhone sold to a British customer have generated keen discussion on the Internet about her identity — and her fate.

The three pictures, posted on the Apple discussion Web site MacRumors.com, show a young Asian woman working on what appears to be an assembly line for iPhones.

Dressed in a pink striped outfit and hat and wearing white gloves with yellow fingertips, the young woman now known on the Web as the "iPhone Girl" is shown smiling and making victory signs as she poses next to an iPhone.

The MacRumors.com user who posted the photos last week, identified as only "markm49uk" from Kingston-upon-Hull, England, said in a posting that one of the pictures showed up on a new 3G iPhone when the iTunes program was launched.

News reports say the woman may work at a factory run by an Apple contractor, Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group, in the southern Chinese boomtown of Shenzhen.

Calls to Foxconn spokesman Edmund Ding went unanswered Wednesday. Ding also didn't immediately respond to an e-mail from The Associated Press seeking comment.

But the South China Morning Post on Wednesday quoted another Foxconn spokesman, Liu Kun, as confirming that the young woman in the pictures works for Foxconn.

Liu said workers testing the device took the pictures and may have forgotten to delete them, the Post reported.

Dubbing the mystery worker "China's prettiest factory girl," China's Southern Metropolitan Daily on Tuesday quoted an unidentified Foxconn official as saying the woman was not fired.

Apple publicist Jill Tan said the company had no comment.

Free Philippine Sim Card: Too Good To Be True?

When I opened my yahoo email, I immediately saw a mail coming from Oliver Marcelo. It stated that he wanted to give me a free Globe sim card as a gift. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link and I was navigated to freephilippinesimcard.com.

The page was simply designed and it asked that I provide my email address. Again, out of curiosity, I typed in my email address and and upon clicking the "Claim your SIM!" button, I was forwarded to the next page where it asked for my personal identification.

As you can see above, it asks for a First Name, Last Name, Address, City, Country, State and even the Zip (covered by the drop down). Again, out of curiosity or maybe stupidity this time, I provided all the necessary information. I then clicked on the "Claim Your SIM!" button, excited to get my free sim.

Upon reading the text (encircled), I was surprised to know that as of the meantime, they are not catering or shipping to places outside US or Canada. If that is so, why in the first place did they include Philippines in their selection of countries, as you can see on the second image?
Up until this step, I didn't continue on providing my mobile number. That loop hole in their process got me into thinking that this might be a scam -- a sweet way of getting my personal information without me thinking something is amiss. And besides, who is Oliver Marcelo? I searched for the name and saw some of his pictures -- I definitely did not know the guy! I have no idea where he got my email or in what affiliation are we related, nothing!
I might be wrong, but again, I might be right in claiming this site is a scam.

Financial: Quotable Quotes

I've read a couple of financial articles and these are the ones that I really find interesting. I'd like to share it to you; you might learn a lesson or two...

To build wealth, minimize your realized (taxable) income and maximize your unrealized income (wealth/capital appreciation without a cash flow).

THEY LIVE WELL BELOW THEIR MEANS.

Efficiency is one of the most important components of wealth accumulation.
Simply: People who become wealthy allocate their time, energy, and money in ways consistent with enhancing their net worth.

Begin earning and investing early in your adult life. That will enable you to outpace the wealth accumulation levels of even the so-called gifted kids from your high school class. Remember, wealth is blind.

Planning and controlling consumption are key factors underlying wealth accumulation.

Money should never change one's values.
Making money is only a report card.
It's a way to tell how you're doing.

Building wealth is not something that will change your lifestyle.
Even at this stage of life, I don't want to change the way I live.

The more dollars adult children receive,
the fewer dollars they accumulate,
while those who are given fewer dollars accumulate more.

I am not impressed with what people own. But I'm impressed with what they achieve. I'm proud to be a physician. Always strive to be the best in your field. ... Don't chase money. If you are the best in your field, money will find you.

• I'm in control of my own destiny.
• Risk is working for a ruthless employer.
• I can solve any problem.
• The only way to become a CEO is to own the company.
• There are no limits on the amount of income I can make.
• I get stronger and wiser every day by facing risk and adversity.

*My Personal Realizations:

> When you generate a high income, it doesn't mean you have to spend every bit of it (high income = high costs). You still have to stick with your (low) costs -- the same costs when you're income is still 5-digits or less. Extra income (income - costs), must be put into investments and/or savings.

> Attitude matters: goals, discipline, hard-work and frugality.

A Lucky Year

I am born under the Year of the Rat. As I entered year 2008, I can't help but be curious what this year holds for me. And I found out, I am quite lucky.

Attention:

To those who are born under the Year of the Rat, I'd like to share this one...

*Carreer*

First trimester - During the first month of this period, the circumstances will be favorable to your professional success. The stars will protect you and facilitate all your moves and initiatives. Therefore you'll have every reason to be optimistic. Do not miss the boat! From the second month onwards, good prospects of a change in career will be offered to you. This may be proposals for a change of company, a radical change of the kind of work, or a change of work place. You'll be well advised to show daring and inventiveness, whatever your branch of activity may be.

Second trimester - During the first two months of this period, you'll get good results in your work. However, your clear-cut opinions and your refusal to make concessions may provoke clashes with fellow-workers. A little more flexibility would help you avoid many useless setbacks. During the remainder of the period, you'll be all but a dilettante. On the contrary, you'll be set on achieving your projects by sparing neither your efforts nor your time. The reward will take much time to come, which will incline you even more to perseverance.

Third trimester - Your professional comportment will change at the beginning of this period. You'll be compelled to solve your problems drastically, to weigh the pros and the cons on all occasions. Beware not to provoke too violent shocks; you can achieve your objectives more surely if you work calmly. From the second month of the period on, you'll become more determined, more active, more dynamic. You'll be more inclined than ever to privilege the future and to take drastic decisions. Good success in the last month.

Fourth trimester - You'll have to carry out the orders of a hierarchical superior, however difficult this may be. Do not above all give him the impression that you don't care about things: he might believe it and then things might begin to go awry for you. Life is made this way: it implies restraints that one must unfortunately accept if one does not want to be crushed by them. From the second month of the period onwards, great opportunities of changing career will be offered to you. You'll know how to convince your superiors or associates of the validity and the exactness of your decisions or projects.

*Finances*

First trimester - The stars will help you consolidate or improve your financial situation. Many of you will even have the right to an increase of their incomes. But don't rest on your laurels and don't forget to profit by this favorable period to prepare for the future. It will be, for instance, the moment or never to buy a suitable house or apartment; you'll find a quite interesting occasion and can obtain a loan in very good conditions. Think also of placing your savings or to invest them: You'll be a winner!

Second trimester - Your nest egg will become bigger without your having to make great efforts. Don't expect to make a fortune suddenly: What lies in wait for you is a comfortable financial situation which will be slightly on the upswing as compared to preceding periods. However, it's possible that some natives of Wood years will see their levels of living increase significantly.

Third trimester - The planetary influxes will on the whole be favorable to your finances. But you'll nevertheless have to keep control of the situation. If you spend too much or if you embark on too risky investments, you may see chance turn its back on you. Remain reasonable even though you'll have the right to celestial support this time.

Fourth trimester - You who always dream of winning at the Lotto must be satisfied with what you can earn with your job. Don't complain: If the stars don't promise you an exceptional stroke of luck, they won't threaten you with a catastrophe either. Thus, even though you will be compelled to check the state of your bank account before satisfying your present spending desires, keep smiling and think of those who have less than you do.

You might be wondering how come I only selected those areas. It's simply because, that's the only areas I am interested in knowing. :D

Make Your Day: Call Center Bloopers

In the Philippines, call center industries are contributing 12 percent of the country's gross national product. It is the fastest growing provider for Filipino college students and graduates alike. Call center agents experience the most stressful type of work, especially if they are assigned in graveyard shifts. Being stressed and under pressured are probably the reasons why it is inevitable for them to commit ridiculous mistakes when handling their call and/or customers.

Here are a few of those call center bloopers and go ahead, make your day!

1. Agent handling a very irate customer:
Customer: "F**k you! What is wrong with you people?! I have been calling for several times already and yet I did not get any action?! F**k you! F**k you!"
Agent: "Sir, pls Sir, stop f**king me!" (Oh, boy!)

2. Agent asking permission to put the customer on hold...
"Sir, can I hold you for five minutes?". (Uhh... What do you mean "hold"?...)

3. Agent trying to pacify the customer:
Agent: "Sir, Im detecting that you're starting to become irate. Please dont. Let's be friends again...". (Uhm... Is this a relationship between an agent-customer or phone pals?)

4. Agent accepting a call from customer:
Agent: "Thank you for calling XYZ.com"
Customer: "Hello, am I talking to a LIVE person?"
Agent: "Yes sir. You are talking LIVE via satelllite with no commercial breaks!".

5. A CSR trying to convince his customer to have his order upgraded to a deluxe arrangement of flowers:
CSR: "Do you want to have it upgraded to a deluxe arrangement?"
Customer: "What's in the deluxe arrangement?"
CSR: "Well, it is more beautiful than the regular. We will be putting more flowers into it. It will be more colorful and more BONGGACIOUS!"
(The word "bonggacious" is a gay-slang word which means "superb", mostly used in Philippine gay vocabulary.)

6. Tidbits of wrong grammar usage and mispronounced English words and/or phrases:
(a) "Thank you for calling TO YOU, how may I help you?"
(b) "So you will have ONE CHILDREN with you in this flight?"
(c) "Ok, ma'am. Can you first give FIRST your first name FIRST and your last name FIRST? (No, way... You're LAST!)
(d) "Thank you for calling your account number sir..." (Huh!?!?)
(e) "So would you like to book for a flight this January nine or TANE?"

7. And last but not the least...
Tech Support: "Ok sir, can you please type C-M-D on the run field."
Client: "What?!!!"
Tech Support: "C-M-D, sir."
Client: (Irate!) WHAT IS THAT?!!!
Tech Support: "Ok! C-M-D. C as in CLIENT, M as in MUST and D as in DIE." (Uh-oh!)
