Weird: Online divorcee jailed after killing virtual hubby

I came across this piece of article when I opened www.yahoo.com and the title just caught my attention so I read on...

By MARI YAMAGUCHI, Associated Press

TOKYO: A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.

Players in "Maple Story" raise and manipulate digital images called "avatars" that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.

The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.

All along, I thought the player was prisoned for killing an avatar in an online game... which is really weird 'coz I never heard such law in online games. But as I read on, it was because of hacking that made her go to jail.

Over all, it was a pretty interesting read. The strategy on presenting the article was really effective. What do you think?

A Woman's Worth

The Hebrew Talmud says: "Be very careful if you make a woman cry because God counts her tears. Every tear a woman shed is equivalent of man's sacrifices in life. The woman came from a man's rib, not on his feet to be stepped on; not on his head to be superior, but on his side to be equal; under his arms to be protected and near his heart to be loved."

Wow! I received this text message today and even though my day was not good because of a terrible argument earlier this morning, it really made my day! I heard this before, but it was only now that it really went straight to my heart. It's probably because I am a bit older now and see things in a different manner? Probably...

Anyways, have you had any text messages where it brightened your day or had affected you in any way? Mind if you make a sharing? Thanks!
